Wisdom in Rhymes From Childhood …

As of late my mind keeps floating back and remembering a rhyme from childhood. It was the strategy used to prevent an all out fight with another child. It went as follows “Sticks and Stones may break my bones but names can never harm me.” We would yell it out in a sing/song manner without much thought. Yet, we instinctively embraced the power of reciting it with great force for the world to hear. As the words rang out, we were instantly infused with self confidence. We realized that it was a declaration to ourselves and the world of our resiliency, control and lack of fear. The power of this simple childhood rhyme has served me will over the years. It evolved to the status of a sacred mantra often running through my mind. You may be able to break our body but never our spirit. Because the cruel words of others do not define us”. It is just that simple…….margiesdaughter.com
