Master The Art of Doing Nothing….

The art of doing nothing or active relaxation is a powerful behavior for managing and reducing stress and anxiety. Start by giving your self permission to do nothing. Behaviors such as listening to soothing music either sitting or lying down and a walk in the park count as acts of active relaxation. My all time favorite is to just sit in silence and stare. You may prefer to stare out the window or at an object, photo, painting. Anything you chose will do. A pet is a good choice. Non-doing or active relaxation helps balance our nervous system. Active relaxation has a cumulative effect that activates the calming branch of our central nervous system. Experiment with what works best for you. Make time. Practice doing nothing. Use your imagination. Create your own a set of behaviors for doing nothing. Practice does make perfect. Especially any thing we wish to master. It is just that simple.
