Conversations with My Mother

The Power Of Thinking…

My Mother gave me the freedom to question and explore from early childhood. She would tell the following story for my benefit. Explaining to all the dynamic she created between us. “When I tell my daughter to do something”  She says “Why Mother.” So, I was launched on my quest for answers. She would listen intently to me giving serious consideration to my words. Often, I could sense both her bemusement and frustration. As I fired off question after question all while shadowing her around. Repeatedly asking “but why? but why? but why? Finally, looking me straight in the eyes. Half laughing and half serious she would say “Because Y is a crooked letter”. Temporarily satisfied. I would wander off to contemplate exactly how Y could be a crooked letter. To my young mind it was like contemplating the secrets of the universe. I was engaged in the process of thinking. I make time daily to just think. It is my go to behavior to gain clarity, discover answers and design more effective solutions. Thanks Mom for giving me the freedom to question on all fronts. I was never told what to do. I was taught how to think. It is just that simple.  margiesdaughter.com
