I was never told what to do. I was taught how to think. My Mother began teaching me in childhood by empowering me to question. She told this story always for my benefit explaining the dynamic between us. “When I tell my daughter to do something” She says “Why Mother.” So, I was launched on my quest to discover and harness the power of thinking. She would listen intently to me giving serious consideration to all my questions. Often, I could sense both her bemusement and frustration. As I fired off question after question while shadowing her around. Repeatedly asking “but why? but why? but why? Finally, she would look me straight in the eyes. Half laughing and serious say “Because Y is a crooked letter”. Temporarily satisfied. I would wander off. To explore how Y could be a crooked letter. To my young mind it was like exploring the secrets of the universe. I was learning how to use my mind and think. Thinking is still my go to strategy to gain clarity, discover answers and design more effective solutions. Thanks Mom. It is just that simple.margiesdaughter.com
