The Greek myth of “Procrustes and his bed” is a story worth telling. On the road to Athens in ancient Greece a person had to pass by Procrustes and his bed. Procrustes would place the person on the bed and cut off any part that did not fit his expectations. When a person was too short for his bed, he would stretch them until they did fit. He would continue the process of adjusting them until they finally fit all of his expectations. The myth clearly demonstrates what happens, when we allow the expectations of others to define us. We cut off, stretch out, and bury parts of our self to meet the expectations of others. The behavior of giving our power away takes root and steadily grows. It is just that simple.margiesdaughter.com
