The Greek myth of “Procrustes and his bed” is a story worth telling. On the road to Athens in ancient Greece a person had to pass by Procrustes and his bed. Procrustes would place a person on his bed. He would cut off any part of them that did not fit his expectations. When a person was too short for his bed, he would stretch them until they did fit. He would continue the process of adjusting them until they finally met all of his expectations. The myth clearly demonstrates the results of being defined by the expectations of others.
