Quality sleep ranks far above our need for exercise. Sleep deprivation destroys our physical and mental health. The following behaviors promote sleep. The choice to use them is yours.
Step # 1– Start by making sleep a top priority. Routine and sleep work perfectly together. Go to bed and get up at the same time. This behavior resets our sleep cycle and circadian rhythms. Our body’s internal clock. Remember. Practice makes perfect!
Step #2–Be aware of your caffeine and simulant intake. Start mid-day to limit consumption.
Steps#3– Create a bed time wind-down routine. Dim the lights. Darkness send signals to the brain through our optic nerve. The optic nerve is connected to our internal clock. Avoid TV news. Arguments. Surfing the web. Limit bedroom activities to sleep. Soon. Your brain will associate lying in bed with falling asleep.
Step # 4– If you wake up. Do not turn on the lights or check the time. These behaviors create anxiety. Focus on belly breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing activates our primal mind/body relaxation response.
Try it. You have nothing to loose. But sleepless nights. It just is this simple.
